How authors get paid

Hi, I was interested in selling stories here until I read the details of how one gets paid.

This is a great site, I love everything about it so far, but I'm currently planning on selling my feedist stories elsewhere because I want to get paid according to how many stories I sell. Like, if I sell a hundred copies of a chapter at $2 each, I should get whatever my percentage of $200 is, instead of hoping that everyone that wants to read it isn't subscribing to your service yet and doesn't find a different link to sign up.

I understand that any website selling my stories is going to want their cut, and I think that's only fair; especially to keep a great place like this running. But the way the payouts are structured for authors is dissuading me from joining what otherwise looks like a great place to market feedist stories.

That's totally fair, and most (not all) premium authors here see pretty modest payouts. However, most self-published authors on any platform see pretty modest payouts. I don't think niche kink material is the exception to the rule. If you want to get rich, independent author is not the easymode path.

What's nice about this platform, however, is that the author/creator owns 100% of their work, can publish it wherever else they choose (there's no exclusivity), and you can remove it at any time. It's yours.

If you look at the terms of service for ALL of the competing sites that cater to specifically weight gain fiction, you are giving the rights to your IP to them when you upload it, for them to do with as they choose. This is whether you're selling the material or not.

Other platforms may allow the author to retain 100% rights to the material, but restrict how it can be republished (KDP does this, for example).

And other sites that allow for monetization just really aren't friendly to the subject matter and will dungeon your content so it's hard to find algorithmically. It's not the most popular kink once you get outside of places like this. It gets lumped in with eating disorders and abuse and to the dungeon you go.

The long and the short is that there is nothing stopping you from posting premium content here, and in other places, per the terms of service of Fantasy Feeder. Other platforms may require exclusivity, so you'll have to check the contracts.

And at first, it doesn't feel like you make a lot here, it's true. But if you get a number of stories up and grow a fanbase and stay on top of it, it sneaks up on you.

I'll also say that if you have a story that you think will sell a hundred copies (and not just have 100 people look at it on KU), you absolutely should consider Draft2Digital or something like that. That would be a huge achievement for this genre. Many selfpub authors are thrilled to sell 5 copies!

The one thing you can't do is use this site or your stories as advertising for other websites. So you're welcome to post full stories here and full stories elsewhere, but posting a teaser here and saying "if you want to read the rest, click here to buy my book/join my patreon/etc" is not allowed.

Thank you for explaining this to me in particular, I wouldn't have known otherwise. And thank you for explaining the rest of your policy in detail, you've answered every question I have but one.

Would it be acceptable for me to put a link to a personal website that promotes my work in my bio somewhere, if I wasn't drawing attention to it in any other way?

Definitely review the site rules about advertising (fantasyfeeder.com/about/rules) if you have questions, but essentially a link to a non-commercial personal website is ok, but there have been people banned in the past year for linking to personal webpages that hosted malicious scripts, etc.

Gotcha. Yeah, there'll be no malicious scripts or anything like that from me.

And, my mind isn't completely made up about posting content here either. If I do, I won't be teaserish about it; it'll be chapter after chapter of full stories. But it might not be all my stories... just so I can see how well they do before I commit to this payment model.

In any case, thank you for answering all my questions, you've been a big help!
